Cover to Wonder Woman #5; Wonder Woman #1 breaks 100K

Ah, a bit of the old “Agony and Ecstasy: for me with Wonder Woman today.

In recent interviews, writer Brian Azzarello and artist Cliff Chiang have teased that readers should expect the unexpected in this edgier, horror take on the superhero genre ­and the king of the gods will ensure that nothing goes as planned for his defiant daughter.

Originally created by the goddess Aphrodite and raised to perfection on the Amazon island of Themiscyra, the newest incarnation of Wonder Woman has a new costume and now a new origin ­ but she remains Wonder Woman. Strong. Proud. Fearless.

Sigh. Not feeling good about this at all.

  15. ihatewhatilove said: Unpopular opinion, but maybe give it a chance to play out? Anyone who’s read 100 Bullets knows that Azzarello’s women can be just as frighteningly competent as his men. I find both the new AND old origins pretty problematic, frankly.
