The fine folks at DC Comics have released a preview of Supergirl #5 out this Wednesday and it looks very, very good. While I have found the book to date to be a bit too decompressed, this preview seems to signal an acceleration in the storytelling. But it also, I think, shows off what has been the star of this book so far — the art of Mahmud Asrar. No, I am not thrilled with the bottom of her redesigned costume, but Asrar’s pencils mitigate the costume’s faults. There have been many terrific Supergirl artists * through the years but the challenge has to been to balance the “super” and the “girl”. Many artists tend to focus on the latter. Asrar captures both. Take a look. If you aren’t reading the book, this looks like the perfect issue to jump in.

More preview after the cut!
