Do you believe that the DC Reboot will succeed, or do you see it as a flimsy attempt to remove most of the bad decisions DC has done in the last few years from the continuity without the need to fix any of then?
I don’t think your two alternatives are really part of the same equation. Do I think it will succeed? It depends on what the definition of success. Did it get them mindshare? Yes. Did it give some books are higher profile launch than they would have gotten? Yes. Did it make Justice League into a hot book? Yes. Did it get some books into the over 100K issue club? Yes. Did it bring in truly new readers? Doesn’t look that way. Did it break new creative ground? A few books did but many more are Marvel 90s redux. So the 52 is kinda a mixed bag that is still being sorted out. It will all come down to numbers anyway. If the sales are flat after a year, well then we’ll have the real judgement.
And no way was this a flimsy attempt at anything, although I do think the reboot was used to get rid of some characters that were not the favorites of editorial.
