DC Women Kicking Ass

Thoughts, pictures, reviews and other stuff about the women in comics who kick ass. This is a feminist site. Deal with it.

Hi Sue I wanted to thank you for helping me with recs for LGBT books a while back, my kids loved them. I also wanted to ask your opinion about male gay characters in the new 52. I personally don't like Bunker and I feel that Apollo & Midnighter are not being explored as fully as they deserve. Savant's sexuality was used to make fun of him. Piper's bf is in the closet. Obsidian is gone and I miss how Andreyko wrote him & his bf Damon. Frankly as a gay man I felt more at ease in the old DCU.

Hi, I am glad your kids liked the list. I can see where you might feel discouraged right now. I hope that DC will offer more representation than Bunker and Apollo and Midnighter. And I agree with you, I miss Damon and Todd a lot. You know I was chatting with a commenter and I said how interesting it would be if they had Alan Scott be gay in Earth 2? They are rebuilding the characters from scratch. It might be a nice way to acknowledge Todd and also bring some more diversity into the Multiverse. I’m sure some wouldn’t like the idea. What do you think?
