So excited! So scared! ABC to do Jessica Jones show

Variety has reported that Twilight writer Melissa Rosenberg is writing and producing a show for ABC based on Brian Michael Bendis’ Alias comic character Jessica Jones.

So ABC will do a show based on the Alias comic, but because it already had an Alias show, this will be named AKA Jessica Jones.

Jessica Jones, when she is truly Jessica Jones, is profane, messy, self-doubting (and loathing depending on what stories the are adapting) and cynical as hell. She’s my favorite Marvel heroine (read into that what you may). While Rosenberg certainly may have some cred given her work for Dexter, anything connected to Twilight makes me nervous. Although that Rosenberg was, according to Variety, “drawn to Jones because the character is deeply flawed but with a biting sense of humor,” is somewhat reassuring that’s also a facile description. There’s more complexity to the character.

But of as concerning to me as the interpretation of the character is where she’ll be appearing is equally concerning. I know the ABC/Disney/Marvel relationship, but ABC seems so wrong. This is the type of show that screams “AMC” or “Showtime”. Gah. ABC means no F-bombs for Jessica which is like Batman without his Batarangs. And I can’t imagine who they will cast. Part of Jessica’s “charm” is that she isn’t model-like. Yes, I am nervous.

But still. Jessica Jones will be appearing weekly in a series. I think I’m happy. Please don’t screw this up, ABC.
