DC Comics has new digest targeted towards kids on the newsstand with the DC Nation Super Spectacular. Timed for summer vacation the premiere issue features a variety of content.
I noticed the cover is different from the one shown when the project was announced. Green Lantern is now long dominanting the cover and gone is Batgirl from Super Best Friends Forever jumping up from the bottom of the book. Instead Young Justice takes up half the cover with Artemis front and center. As you can imagine I was pleased to see a female character featured so prominently.
And the content? None of the comics are original. The Young Justice story is from last year’s Free Comic Book Day. A Teen Titans origin of Beast Boy story is from a Teen Titans Go comic. The Green Lantern story is from the comics’ 0 issue that came out at the end of last year. I’m a little surprised that all the comics are repurposed. DC has so little output for kids that it likely that those who do look for kids content already have the Young Justice and Green Lantern comics.
So what else? There’s a few puzzles, a lot of ads for Batman Lego and a few features from the DC Nation show including two full pages on Super Best Friends Forever.

I could have done without Supergirl’s comment. One of things about the character I like is that she is a body shape that isn’t like 90% of the other female characters in comics. So why bring attention to it? Anyway, here’s the whole page including a mini-interview Lauren Faust.

And speaking of the SBFF here’s a preview of the lastest episode.

If you have kids who haven’t read these comics (or you haven’t read them yourself) the digest is offers up enough entertainment to while away and hour or so. If you’ve already read these comics $4.99 is a bit pricey for the extras included.
Reblogging because of SBFF content.
WAIT WOULD DONNA & KORY ACTUALLY HAVE AN ANIMATED FRIENDSHIP? I’M A LITTLE BIT MORE EXCITED FOR THAT
