Today at NYCC during the panel DCE: From Concept to Page Cliff Chiang previewed the look for three new characters in Wonder Woman.
No big suprised given the teaster at the end of Wonder Woman 12 is Orion. Chiang talked about how they tried to keep some of the Kirby design elements but modernize it. They ran into some issues with one version that reminded people of Ant Man. Chiang’s response? “We think Ant Man is a great design.”
Azzarello suggested that he have a racing jacket which did not have fans at first. “We didn’t want Superboy in the 90s”.

The final design is on the right.
Chiang also showed off the design for a new character “Sirocca”. He spoke about how her hair became a key part of the character design. This character will be showing up in the next issue and according to Chiang, “she floats a little.”

The final design is for Dionysus. Azzarello and Chiang said that traditionally, as Bacchus, he’s shown as jolly character. As they looked to modernize the character Chiang said they thought of “this guy who has eaten and drinken everything” and reimagined him as thei “weird Japanese hipster” with a fox belt and fox teeth.

Chiang also walked through his 0 issue and I found it interesting that while many people thought he was channeling Kanigher’s Wonder Woman in the opening, Chiang said he was actually thinking of an old Thor comic.
Hey, Robert, look who’s going to be showing up in Wonder Woman…
>Dionysus >”Weird japanese...AM LOSING MY SHIT FUCK I LOVE THIS COMIC SO MUCH
