The New York Post has the exclusive about the much expected news that Batman’s next Robin would be a girl. But it’s not Harper Row. Nope. It’s a female character that has worked with Batman before and is a fan favorite.
Yes, it is Carrie Kelly from the out of continuity The Dark Knight Returns. Tomasi says to the Post:
“What you’ll find out once you crack the book, is that she’s not exactly the ‘new Robin,’ but I don’t want to spoil the story and her introduction into Bruce Wayne/Batman’s life,” Tomasi said. “In regards to how long she’ll be around, let’s just say that it’s a helluva lot longer than ‘one issue.’ I’ve got plans for Carrie that play well into the future.”
Not exactly, huh?
So let’s break this down!
Female Robin: YEAH!
Female Robin who has a fan base: YEAH!
Female Robin from an out-of-continuity story set in the future when there is a perfectly good character who could play THE EXACT SAME ROLE sitting on the “bench” - WTF, indeed.
And you all thought that “toxic” stuff was bullshit.
