So Colleen, what’s your first memory of Lois Lane?
I’m not sure I have an earliest memory, like I have no earliest memory of air. She was just always there.
Someone asks you who Lois Lane is - what’s your answer?
What is it about her you like? What are her strengths?
Lois can do things Superman can’t. She’s a better reporter than Clark. It’s part of why she gets in trouble all the time. If there’s some crooked politician or sleazy slum lord gaming the system, Superman can’t show up and beat some ethics into him, but Lois can do some good investigative journalism and nail the creep in the public eye.
What role does Lois play in the Superman mythos and what’s her importance?
Every archetypal hero needs a romantic anchor, someone specific to do his job for. That being said, in order to keep up the dramatic impetus, that romance must be ultimately unfulfilled. Once Odysseus makes it home to Penelope, the Odyssey’s over. That’s why Lois is best as Superman’s Girlfriend, not his wife.
What role does Lois play in comics/pop culture as a whole?
She’s a respected, single, competitive professional woman, and has been since 1938!
What’s your favorite Lois moment?
The ham-handed racial commentary that was “I Am Curious… Black!”
Who is your favorite Lois actress?
Joan Alexander, both on radio and as the voice in the Fleischer cartoons!
There have been a lot of Lois’ what’s your favorite Lois era (Silver Age, Bronze Age …)
I’d be lying if I didn’t say it was the Silver Age, when Superman was such a prankster-slash-jackass to her. “Sorry, Lois! In oder for me to capture this crook, I’m going to have to have you drink this potion and turn into a witch! See you later!” SWOOSH.
If you had to pick one “L” word for her what would it be?
I looked up “tenacious” in the thesaurus looking for an L word synonym, but no dice.
And what’s a good anniversary gift for her?
