This art post kinda goes out to the daughter of Sue of dcwomenkickingass here on Tumblr. Her daughter’s a huge fan of Young Justice and has been taking it hard on this season’s direction. I hope that this weeks ep. re-affirmed her love for the show.
Mostly, I just wanted something to draw tonight and Artemis was the winnah! Plus it WAS a pretty good ep., just sayin.
Wow, this is so lovely and so kind. My daughter absolutely adores Artemis and she was very happy with the latest episode. Thank you branch56!

Preview of Young Justice Season Two
A very meaty look at what is coming up on the show.
I was very hard on the Young Justice TV show when it first premiered because of the gender diversity and portrayals in the first few shows. I’m still not comfortable with the ratio of boys to girls or how the two female characters fall into girly girl and tough girl archetypes. This, I hope, will change when the newest female character joins next season.
The show has also spawned a monthly comic which fills in the back story to some of the episodes. The October issue focuses on Artemis, and I recommend picking it up. First, it was terrific to see a young kid’s superhero comic (that’s who is supposed to be reading these …) focus the entire issue on female character (I gave it to a 12 year old girl who is now OBSESSED with Artemis). Secondly, because it drops some hints around some of the shows mysteries specifically who is Cheshire.
Don’t look too close at the page that follows if you don’t want a hint.

In this corner the woman who has held the titles of Wonder Woman, Princess of Hell, Requiem, co-leader of Themyscira and BFF of Diana. A woman who may lack tact but is so tough she once bit off her own pony and braided it in a rope to escape from prison,

Artemis of Bana-Mighdall!
And in this corner, the woman who puts the fury in the female Furies, loves Pokemon, carries a megarod, scoffs at silk sheets and is so tough that when she is shot she doesn’t even know she’s bleeding, the miraculous love of Scott Free,

Big Barda Free.
Told you it was going to be good.
Tonner is doing a 13” Artemis doll as a NYCC exclusive. Artemis! It’s pricey $149. But it’s beautiful. And it’s Artemis!

A is for Artemis a kick ass fierce fighter who once bit off her own pony tail to escape her prison. A member of the Bana-Mighdall tribe, Artemis first came to prominence when her people attacked Themyscrira and were then forced to defend it against Circe’s demons. Her bravery made her a natural choice to compete in a contest to find a new Wonder Woman. The contest, an attempt by Queen Hippolyta to bypass a vision she had Wonder Woman’s death, put Artemis temporarily in the star-spangled bathing suit. While possessing the bravery required for a Wonder Woman, Artemis struggled in the position on a number of other fronts. Let’s just say the job didn’t come naturally to her. Artemis died while Wonder Woman thus fulfilling the prophecy. But since this is DC she came back to life after a quick trot through hell. Artemis was later named as a co-leader leader of a united Bana-Amazon tribe when the monarchy was dissolved. She played a key role in the Amazon’s attack on the US and was apparently captured and then imprisoned. She freed by Wonder Woman and Jeanette during a Secret Six arc. Artemis is one of my favorite characters. She is loyal, blunt, brave, passionate and has the best hair of any woman in DC. I think she’d be perfect for the new Wonder Woman run. Hear me JMS? Oh, and if you want to read more about Artemis this is a really good article.
How kick ass is Artemis? Bite off your own pony tail and make it into a rope, kick ass.
It’s Wonder family Wednesday. Artemis, Diana and Donna are ready to kick ass.
