The musical team-up chairs continue in Batman and this time the winner is Catwoman! And lucky us we get probably the best cover she’s had since the new 52 began.
BATMAN AND CATWOMAN #22

(Source: ign.com)
Dear Catwoman or rather those of you who are responsible for her appearances in comics. I want to bring a problem to your attention. This week in Justice League of America #2 Catwoman’s costume was broken. No really, the zipper just didn’t work. See:

I am sure you are more than aware that Catwoman is a professional thief. She is supposed to be stealthy and runs with a dangerous crowd. Guns, knives, magical mumbo jumbo, you name it, can come flying at her at any minute.
In this role it is incredibly important for the zipper to work. For one thing, her costume, much like that of her “friend” Batman acts to protect her from all those items I named above. While it may not prevent a bullet it could prevent road burn, an errant knife or other dangers. This is particularly important because Catwoman does not have powers and thus could be seriously hurt or killed given the zipper is open where her heart is. You may remember that at one time a villain named Hush removed Selina’s heart and almost killed her. It therefore makes sense for her to cover up for many readers remember that.
Secondly, Catwoman’s skin stands in dramatic contrast to the rest of her costume. The black costume makes her less visible at night. It’s why most of the folks wearing tights and kevlar in Gotham wear black. The problem is when Selina is unzipped her skin makes her less stealthy and easier to spot.
That’s not good.
I’m sure Catwoman is very comfortable with her her body and may like to show some cleavage. Hey, a lot of women do. No one wants to stop that.
But really the level to which the broken zipper had her showing cleavage was distracting. And not just for the readers.

Poor Vibe!
And I understand that being stealthy and stealing stuff can make one hot. But it doesn’t seem to bother her in own book where she has a working zipper … finally.
So please fix that zipper. She will still be sexy. When Anne Hathaway portrayed Catwoman she was zipped and it was fine.
See?

So far the JLA book has been a fun read. I’ll have more fun not worrying about that broken zipper.
Yours,
Sue
Spotted by someone from the Batman66 forums at the Threadless store in Chicago a new design, “The Bat and the Cat”. It’s not currently online but should be soon.
I find it alternately fascinating and creepy.

Following the events of the CATWOMAN ANNUAL, Catwoman and the Penguin declare war on each other—and Gotham City is set to burn in their wake!

When DC rebooted their universe for the new 52 they redesigned the costumes of every major character - Superman lost the red underpants, Wonder Woman lost the stars, and even Batman got tweaked. One character remained virtually unchanged - Catwoman. When she popped in the new 52 she was wearing the same costume that Darwyn Cooke had designed for her years before albeit the zipper seemed to be down more than ever before.
But that wasn’t always the plan.
Guillem March actually submitted a variety of new costumes for the character. And not surprising they show are either skin tight or show a lot of skin.

Despite the many changes in the new 52, Catwoman’s costume stayed the same including her flat heeled boots.
Here’s a good look at her boots from the cover of Catwoman #19

But in today’s Justice League of America she is wearing footwear that resembles that worn by Anne Hathaway in TDKR.

TDKR’s Catwoman, of course, wore a boot with a sharp metal heel as seen in this poster.

The Justice League of America are supposed to be “World’s Most Dangerous” perhaps Catwoman’s costume change is to make her more dangerous?

When DC solicited the cover for Catwoman 0 in June the comics internet kinda blew up for a day or so. The cover, which showed a contorted Catwoman with a bulbous half glutimus maximus had artists such as Kate Beaton, Cameron Stewart and many others respond with parodies.
Here’s that original cover:

DC had no comment on the original cover at the time. But they clearly listened as the cover never showed up in print. March went back to the drawing board and produced a second cover that had Selina zipped and with equal size buttocks:

But now you can see the other sketches for alternative covers for that issue that March presented to DC.
With the tie-in to Death of the Family over, Catwoman starts to build towards the character’s inclusion in Justice League of America, which begins in February.

Helena Bertinelli won her match over Starling yesterday. Not a surprise but it was nice to see that a new female character in comics was able to make it to the second round of the tournament.
Now on today’s match And it is two Gothamites (or former for one) who both like the color black.
In this corner, a woman who has a thing for cats! And diamonds!
